Boggle games for iPhone: which one fits you?
Compare Boggle With Friends, Boggle: Arcade Edition and GridzyPals for iPhone. See subscriptions, scoring, multiplayer options and current App Store links.
The short answer
There are two official Boggle apps worth checking on iPhone: Boggle With Friends and Boggle: Arcade Edition. If you want an independent word-grid game with live groups and challenges you can finish later, GridzyPals is another option. The best fit depends on your friends, your schedule and how you want scoring to work.
We make GridzyPals. This comparison uses current official product listings and support pages, linked below. It is not an independent review or a claim that we tested every competing app.
Compare the three options
| Game | A good fit when… | Payment model | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boggle: Arcade Edition | You want official Boggle and already use Apple Arcade. | Apple Arcade subscription; no ads or in-app purchases. | Access depends on keeping the subscription. |
| Boggle With Friends | Your friends already play it, or you enjoy power-ups. | Free with in-app purchases. | Power-ups can affect time, word discovery and points. |
| GridzyPals | You want live groups, play-later challenges and adjustable boards. | Free with optional cosmetic purchases. | Independent rules; English word gameplay; internet required. |
These are three different offers, not a ranking from first to last. Start with the one that matches the way you actually play.
Boggle: Arcade Edition
Worth a look if you already have Apple Arcade. Zynga’s listing includes Classic and Power multiplayer modes, a solo adventure, skill-building activities and daily challenges. It also supports private SharePlay games through FaceTime for up to 32 players.
Apple Arcade’s subscription model removes ads and in-app purchases. That makes it a useful starting point if you want official Boggle without buying individual in-game extras. You still need an active subscription to keep access.
Pick the mode deliberately: the presence of a Classic mode does not mean every mode follows the same rules.

Boggle With Friends
Worth a look if you want the official free-to-download option. Boggle With Friends offers three-round opponent matches, solo training, daily and weekly challenges, and live tournaments. Its App Store description also lists nine gameplay languages.
Power-ups are part of the game. Zynga’s support guide describes tools that add time, reveal words or raise scoring temporarily. Some players enjoy those extra decisions; others prefer a contest focused on what each player spots unaided.
If your regular opponent already plays here, that existing connection may matter more than a longer feature list elsewhere. Before switching, ask whether you both want a different scoring experience or simply a fresh board to play together.

GridzyPals
Worth a look if your group wants to play both now and later. GridzyPals is our independent word-grid game for iPhone, iPad and browsers. You connect neighboring letters, find words and race the timer.

Official GridzyPals artwork featuring gameplay. Screens may differ from the latest app version.
- Friends ready now: play live with 2–8 people in a Party.
- Different schedules: send a VS challenge and take your turns separately. Each round is still timed.
- A few minutes alone: practice solo or play the three daily boards.
- A different pace: choose 4×4, 5×5 or 6×6 boards and rounds from 30 seconds to three minutes.
In live multiplayer, words nobody else finds earn double points; shared words still score normally. Optional cosmetic purchases change how you look and sound, without changing the scoring.
GridzyPals is not an official Boggle app. Word gameplay is in English, internet is required, and social play and saved stats use a free account. Public matches depend on other players being available, so inviting one friend is the most reliable way to start a rivalry.

Choose by the way you want to play
Start with your next actual session. Are you playing alone on a break, challenging one friend overnight, or getting a group together at the same time? Those are different needs even when the screenshots show similar grids.
- Already paying for Apple Arcade? Check its Boggle edition before downloading another game.
- Your friends are happy in Boggle With Friends? There may be no reason to move them. Compare the scoring and payment model first.
- Your group wants adjustable boards and both live and play-later modes? Try GridzyPals with one friend before inviting everyone.
For your trial, finish a match, send a challenge and check the results together. Could you tell whose turn it was? Did you understand why someone won? Would you both open the app again tomorrow? Those answers are more useful than a feature count.
Questions before you download
Is there an official Boggle game for iPhone?
Yes. Boggle With Friends and Boggle: Arcade Edition are official options from Zynga. GridzyPals is a separate, independent game with its own rules.
Can I play without an Apple Arcade subscription?
Yes. Boggle With Friends and GridzyPals are available outside Apple Arcade. Both offer free play with optional purchases, although what those purchases affect differs.
Does a similar letter grid mean identical scoring?
No. Check the rules of the specific game and mode. Timers, bonuses, power-ups and treatment of shared words can change the result. See GridzyPals rules and scoring before your first match.
Why do old iPhone guides recommend different apps?
App availability and compatibility change. Before following an older recommendation, open its current App Store page on your device and check the requirements. A familiar title in an old article does not establish that it still works on your iPhone.
Boggle is a trademark of Hasbro. GridzyPals is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hasbro or Zynga. Product information may change. Competitor features were checked against linked official sources; this guide does not claim hands-on testing.
